I went around this for a while, but did not get anywhere after I spent as much time as I had to spare. The file in question is a Director file. The games that made use of the old Macromedia Director are among the most problematic on modern PCs. I am not sure what jafa did to get around this. I tacked the install from his MSI and only caught the registry entry I posted and some install/uninstall MSI entries. It did not seem to write any files outside of the installed folder save the Start Menu shortcut.
At this point, all I can suggest is to sort out your Windows Installer problem or wait for jafa to respond, but he has not posted here in a long time. Short of that, a VM with Windows 9X installed in it may be your only other option.
Problems with the Amber Installer
Re: Problems with the Amber Installer
Thank you so much for all the help -- I truly appreciate it. Perhaps I'll get a Win95 one day with an old laptop; would make accessing many old games much easier in general. Once more, thanks! (Or perhaps someone will update Amber to run on modern hardware in the near future..)Collector wrote: At this point, all I can suggest is to sort out your Windows Installer problem or wait for jafa to respond, but he has not posted here in a long time.
